No Trick Month

Our October social-media campaign is all about teens, and we’re using their own voices to explain why people should consider fostering teen-agers. Please feel free to use any of the following posts and text to help us raise awareness about our foster-care community and the older children who need your help.

Fostering older kids isn’t about having all the answers or some magical trick—it's about showing up with an open heart. They don’t need perfection; they need consistency, understanding, and someone who sees their potential.

But being a teen in foster care can be tricky.

Jamar K: “I am a boy trying to raise a man as I figure out this thing called life,” says Jamar K., a local young adult who spent time in foster care as a young person. “It’s weird and it’s hard because I have no choice but to figure it out. I feel like it has made me into the person that I am today, and I will use my voice to let other boys know that you can become the man that you want to be.” #FosteringTeens #NoTricksJustLove #MakeADifference #25by2025

This Halloween, remember that fostering teens isn’t about tricks—it’s all about the treat of making a real difference in a young person’s life!

Keyandra R: “Someone once told me to walk in the Grace of Gifts that have been deeply rooted inside of me, so I actually had GRACE tattooed on my foot,” said Keyandra R., a local young adult who spent time in foster care as a young person. “When I am struggling on this journey of life, I look at my foot and know that I have the strength to walk through anything that life throws at me.”

Teens in foster care may come with their own “ghosts” of the past, but with a little patience and support, you can help them build a brighter future. Be a hero without the mask—consider fostering a teen today! #FosteringTeens #NoTricksJustLove #MakeADifference #25by2025

There’s no trick to fostering older kids. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, don’t overlook the teens. They’re resilient, full of potential, and just waiting for someone to believe in them. Some have the weight of the world – and the care of their family – on their shoulders.

Nicole W: “I was separated from my siblings and as the oldest, I feel like it is my job was to take care of them because they needed me, said Nicole W., a local young adult who spent time in foster care as a young person. “Having no power as they were taken from me was devastating. My heart would break when I would see other siblings separated and crying for their siblings, so I would always try to comfort them.

“Leaving my siblings behind tore me to the core, but through all of that I can see the beauty in that as I am determined to graduate with a degree and make a better life for us.” #FosteringTeens #NoTricksJustLove #MakeADifference #25by2025

Rebekah – “I was on the debate team, the swim team, I spent time volunteering in the community; All of that identity was stripped from me when I entered care.”
