Protective Supervision

Protective Supervision

Families under protective supervision participate formally in dependency system activities including assessment, case planning and court judicial reviews. A judge reviews the case and makes all final decisions regarding the family’s case plan for families in which the children have been sheltered, or who otherwise require the guidance of the judicial system.

Communities Connected for Kids works in partnership with the Department of Children and Families, judges, magistrates, Children’s Legal Services and the Guardian Ad Litem to ensure the best interests, safety and well-being of children are placed first. The parents are supported through their case plan designed to address the concerns that brought the family into the child-welfare system. For example, services for fathers were put in place in 2023 through a local fatherhood initiative. And in 2024, we advocated and received state funding to establish the Early Services Engagement Program, which we expect will reduce the number of children who are sheltered by swiftly engaging families into safety management while the Department of Children and Families conducts its protective investigation into abuse allegations.
