Dependency Families
Welcome parents!
This webpage is a dedicated resource hub for families involved in the Florida dependency system in Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast, offering clear, compassionate guidance and support throughout the legal and emotional challenges of child welfare cases. Although still in development, it will provide an FAQ created from families like you and an overview of the dependency process, including key stages like shelter hearings, case plans, and reunification efforts. Families can access information about their rights, responsibilities, and available services such as parenting classes, counseling, and visitation assistance. With information about how to contact a case manager and links to important documents, we hope this webpage empowers families, reduces confusion, and promotes reunification whenever possible.

Parent Council
The Parent Council is a powerful initiative designed to elevate the voices of families impacted by the dependency system, ensuring their lived experiences help shape policies and practices that affect them. Comprised of parents who have navigated the child welfare system firsthand, the council serves as a bridge between families and the agencies that serve them. It advocates for more compassionate, equitable approaches, promotes family-centered solutions, and provides feedback to improve system accountability. By sharing insights, participating in decision-making, and mentoring other parents, the council helps foster a more respectful and collaborative environment—one that values family strengths and prioritizes reunification and healing.
